Welcome to Lander University’s Experiencing History Lab (EHL)! This lab, a part of the Department of History and Philosophy and under the direction of Dr. Franklin Rausch, is a collaborative effort between faculty and students to help people learn history through experience. Such experience can take a variety of forms, such as games, living history and simulation. The EHL does this by creating historical experiences and disseminating them so that other people can experience history, too.
Put yourself right in the middle of history with games and simulations that can be played in the classroom. These games typically make use of cards, dice and boards. Each game includes links to the files needed to play the game, as well as instructional videos.
In November 1775, the first casualty-causing battle in the South during the American War for Independence occurred. Students worked with Dr. Rausch to re-fight the battle using miniature soldiers as an experiment to see what would have happened had the battle been fought differently. See their outcome as well as materials about the actual battle.
