The Honors College

Grow beyond the classroom

The Lander University Honors College is a community of bright, ambitious students working closely with faculty mentors to take on challenges both inside and outside of the classroom.

Perhaps you'll take on a research project of your own. Recently, Lander students contributed to a NASA grant project, attended a prestigious summer seminar in California, and participated in academic and professional conferences. Honors students are often featured in Lander's annual academic showcase, which provides students an opportunity to publicly display and present outstanding original work created during that academic year.

As you finish your education, the Honors faculty can help you process what you learned and market your new credentials. On and off campus, students of the Lander University Honors College get the support, encouragement and opportunity they need to thrive.

Student's Guide to the Honors College

Application Process

Students can apply to the Honors College as incoming freshmen, as transfer students, or as continuing Lander students who are rising sophomores or juniors. Applications for the Honors College are accepted year-round. Decision letters are mailed on the 15th of each month. Please reach out to Dr. Lillian Craton at lcraton@lander.edu with questions about the application process.

Incoming First-Year Students

Incoming freshman accepted to the Honors College are typically in the top 1/3 of their high school graduating class, have high school GPAs above 4.2 on a 5.0 scale (or 3.5 on a 4.0 scale), or have a track record of success in honors, AP, or dual enrollment coursework. SAT or ACT scores are not required, but scores of 1170 (SAT) or 24 composite (ACT) or higher will enhance your application. Incoming freshmen who apply by April 1 may be offered Honors Housing. Space is limited, so students interested in Honors Housing are encouraged to apply early.

Transfer Students & Continuing Lander Students

Transfer students and continuing Lander students may apply to the Honors College with their college credentials rather than their high school credentials. Accepted students must have a minimum university GPA of 3.25, and they typically have a university GPA of 3.5 or higher.
