Preparing students to solve some of humanity’s most challenging problems

The human mind is beautifully complex, and analyzing human behavior is challenging. As a student in the Department of Psychological Sciences and Human Services, you’ll be best prepared for those challenges of your future career. Whether you’re pursuing a degree in psychology or human services, and whether you’re an online student or in-person, you’ll learn how to research, conduct experiments, analyze data, reflect on results and ask tough questions of faculty and peers. These core skills are why our programs have such a strong record of alumni who have found rewarding careers in a number of different fields, or who have gone on to earn advanced degrees from major universities.

Yet, even if you choose not to pursue an advanced degree, these are also the exact traits that employers look for in job candidates no matter what career you choose. Making observations, problem-solving, identifying patterns and trends, being self-sufficient on the job... these are what make our graduates obvious choices for whatever they choose to do after graduating from Lander.

At Lander University, learning isn’t limited to the traditional classroom space. Here are some ways our students take their learning to new levels:

  • Internships: Gain real-world experience and make professional connections, all while earning credit towards your degree program. Our faculty have relationships, in Greenwood and beyond, that can help you find the right internship for you.
  • Travel as Education: Experience another culture for yourself by living and studying abroad. Or join your classmates and professors on a short-term study tour.
  • Research: Lander regularly sends our students to regional and national conferences to showcase their research projects. Students also have the opportunity to participate in the annual Academic Symposium, held on campus each spring.
