SOCI 228 - Popular Culture & Mass Media
This course addresses the sociology of popular culture and the mass media. Theories of the construction and reproduction of popular culture, the role and influence of the mass media in society, connections to systems of race, class and gender stratification, and the sociology of particular forms of mass media (e.g. television, film, literature, music, digital and internet) will be addressed. Prerequisite: "C" or better in Soci 101 or departmental approval. Three credit hours.
