SOCI 356 - Sociology of Sports & Leisure
This course addresses the sociology of sports and leisure in the United States. Sports and leisure activities and relationships at micro, meso, and macro levels of sociological reality will be examined. Particular attention will be paid to understanding how sports and leisure activities are embedded in systems of class, race, and gender stratification and how they relate to social institutions such as the family, politics, media, religion, and the economy. Prerequisite: SOCI 101 or department approval. Three semester hours.
