CHEM 221 - Organic Chemistry |
The aliphatic hydrocarbons, aromatic hydrocarbons and heterocyclic compounds and their derivatives are covered, with emphasis on structure, nomenclature, class reactions, of functional groups and mechanisms of organic reactions. Structural analysis of infrared, nuclear magnetic resonance, and mass spectroscopy is stressed second semester. Three hours lecture, three hours laboratory weekly. Prerequisite: CHEM 111-112 or approval of instructor. Four semester hours.
